Luka is a Staff Researcher and Research Lead at AssemblyAI. He leads end‑to‑end research and development of large‑scale multilingual asynchronous and streaming speech recognition and understanding systems, leveraging multi‑billion‑parameter models on petabyte‑scale datasets with GPU and TPU accelerators to push state‑of‑the‑art performance. His earlier work spans applied computer vision for medical diagnostics, large‑scale biometric verification on edge devices, and multi‑speaker multilingual speech synthesis and recognition. Born and raised in the Republic of Georgia, Luka was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 in Technology in 2019. Outside the lab, he spent five seasons playing semi‑professional basketball.
