Like any good e-commerce company, Wayfair collects a significant amount of data to use for business intelligence. Until recently, the majority of this data was crunched off-hours in preparation for business use the next day. We also create a great deal of data about our applications and infrastructure in real time. By combining business and infrastructure metrics, we can more quickly identify issues, shorten investigations, and generally offer a better customer experience. Several months ago, we decided that we wanted to know as things were happening, and be the ones to report issues back to business stakeholders by combining the data sets and using them in real time.
