Managed cloud providers are popular, but at scale, sometimes it makes sense to operate your own cloud. At Comcast, we run one of the world’s largest OpenStack clouds—in the top ten percent as measured by vCPUs and in the top five percent when measured by storage.

In this talk, I’ll share why we run our own private cloud and advice for those considering running one too. I’ll discuss how we operate and monitor our cloud, including best practices we’ve developed and tips to avoid pitfalls we’ve encountered.
